This morning as I was sipping my cup of tea I read a portion of The Art Spirit by Robert Henri. In his writings, dealing with the art of painting, I find a common space with the art of photography. His words this morning were of interest as he wrote of connecting with the subject or model and he wrote of light, a huge influence in my photography as I, as often as possible, seek light that can take a photo to a higher level.

Henri writes, “There are some painters who deal with the play of light as the most graceful thing that exist.” Indeed and this graceful thing I seek in my work, transforming a photo with the “play of light.”

As I walked and shot this morning I thought of this photo that was taken a few weeks ago and remembering my words above I thought this a fine example of working with light, shadows and, in this case, nature.

Early this morning I was out shooting and started with this clematis at my home. It’s an amazing deep blue color and the center very spider like as if walking out of the plant and towards the camera.

Last week was spent in Napa looking for a new home and while it was very intense with all the house searching it was still wonderful to be in Napa. Often I try to tune into the consciousness of an area, tune into the people and their feelings and their happiness levels. In Napa it was easy to see and feel the happiness of the locals – everyone was helpful, smiles were plentiful and even the drivers seemed courteous.

As the trip was about house hunting i did not shoot a lot, well actually I shot the houses to make visual notes, except for a few photos of grapevines after a morning rain.

Okay, so be patient with me as work continues on this new blog. Header photos are coming about info on me and what I do, where I travel and what I seek to photograph.

It’s always interesting, fun and at times frustrating as I learn new aspects of technology and I find it’s always worth the time and effort. And, again I must say I love the size of photos on the blog – awesome!

It’s taken some time to make the switch from the rather cool looking blog of the past, that was terribly antiquated, to today’s new blog with larger images, more options and a faster working way to share words and photos.
