month: January 2009
This past weekend I was at Imaging USA, a photography and imaging convention. I try once a year to attend one of these photo gatherings and it’s often been Expo in NYC, but this year, wanting to stay in the West I attended Imaging in recently restored downtown Phoenix.
.
Okay so I’ve been to Phoenix before but have never seen it like this, the new convention center seems architecturally perfect for the restored downtown. The convention center buildings were comfortable, relatively easy to navigate and there were restrooms everywhere (no waiting for the ladies room!). Also, Symphony Hall was beautiful too, attached to the center it’s where Anne Geddes spoke and presented a special program.
.
At Imaging the class sessions were interesting and informative and the Expo was not overly crowded like NYC. I asked a Canon rep about that and he stated, among other things, that Imaging was more for photographers and not just people entering with a pass, as in New York, to see the show.
.
It was a great few days, I was able to meet several times with GraphiStudio and attend their workshops. I learned TONS and I’m excited about new happenings with my work, website changes, new slideshows and shooting.
.
Here a shot taken at dawn just outside downtown Phoenix and the hills of Phoenix Mountain Park.

Last week I was in the Monterey area for a few days and saw this scene early one morning while riding bike. This location is at the very end of Pier 2 outside a fish market where the pelicans were actually running and and out of the market grabbing thrown bites of fish. Going to Monterey, or on any trip? Get up early, get out with the sunrise and enjoy the quieter time, warm morning light and in Monterey pelicans resting on fishing boats.
