Always shooting…. Last evening after sunset and while the light was still bright I decided to shoot leaves of the merlot vines. A good study in varietals.

Sunrise was at Newton Vineyard with the shot below showing the view of St. Helena.

Lines of green, shadow and light are bold at sunset time right now as the air is quite clear and the vines still in their bright spring green. Driving the Valley is beautiful in every direction.

It’s quiet in the vineyards, morning and evening, just the wind and task of creating images and being present in the moment. Last evening light had changed to the point I was actually done shooting before the final setting of the sun (gone from illuminating the vines as I wanted) and after cameras were safely away I simply watched the final light without cameras, just watched and absorbed this view.

On Friday we left Palo Alto where it was warm and sunny; a perfect day. Driving north in the City the fog rolled in and it turned into the big chill. A bike ride in the City was canceled and we headed across the Golden Gate to bike in Marin where it was warmer and fog was gone. Even with the wind it was great to stop and grab this quick shot of the bridge in layers of blowing fog.

Sunrise yesterday morning was so clear and light was simply warm within the photos of vines and leaves.

Okay so what you can’t see is that the wall behind the fun group was a cool green but this was just one of those photos that works even better in black & white.
