Aloha from Hawaii! If I lived here I’m sure I would be a surfing shooter junkie – it’s amazing to shoot and watch the big waves and the surfers in the Pipeline. Equally amazing was watching the people who were watching the waves, most didn’t even speak, just stood and watched the power of the sets and sets of waves.
.
Here one shot of a surfer in the Pipeline.

Yes the waves are big and in series of multiple waves like in this sunset photo. What I found when I drove up the coast to a hot surfing location with even bigger waves was that surfers would paddle out to the farthest waves, wait for the right wave and surf all the way in to shore. Very cool with such long rides.

Greetings from Hawaii! If I’m not answering email as quickly as usual it’s because I’m on the beach or in the ocean. Waves are big, real big and too much shore break for body surfing, but in the lagoons near the hotel the snorkeling is excellent. Yesterday lots of fish and two sea turtles – very cool to swim with them!

This week I was headed Upvalley to shoot a sunset when I noticed the layers of light in the mountains beyond To Kalon Vineyard. I turned around and drove to a location where I’ve been shooting since last spring. This is the image I captured with the light in the mountains and the vines that have not yet been pruned. Bummer this is so small online in a blog – the layers, the light and the textures totally match the feel of the winter day. Capturing the feel – that’s when I know I’ve got the shot.

Wedding day photos happen, in each moment, whether aware or not, and it is my preference to capture what is natural in the day. All the joy, the bliss, the love, emotion and the connections with family and friends. This week as the website was being adjusted and images changed I saw this photo of a bride’s sister; she was simply waiting on her sister at Stanford University – waiting in lovely light and looking so beautiful in the moment.

Happy New Year everyone and cheers to a great 2010! The holidays were great with some down time, a few good movies (especially Mostly Martha, the German subtitled film Bella Martha – a gourmet chef in Hamburg, great foods, life changes and then…). Two photos to share, one from the Redwood Cellars of Charles Krug Winery in St Helena and a shot of Krug’s winery cool cat, Buddy Love (as a note Buddy was not in the Redwood Cellar).
