With the standing water from all our recent rains you can see why the grass and valley are so green. Very Irish to be this green as we near St. Patrick’s Day.
It was late afternoon yesterday when I grabbed cameras and headed towards the vineyards for a winter sunset with the vines.
Yes it’s a bit dark but in the darkness you can see the rows and rows of vines and the layers of ridges in the mountains. Also, the blush of yellow is mustard that is still growing in many vineyards on the valley floor.
Yesterday was the Napa Valley Marathon, the 33rd running of this race.
Two photos to share – the first is a shot of the metals which are always cool and this year bright with a great design and worth the run. Second shot is the winner, Chris Macko, from Palo Alto who finished the hilly and rainy course in 2:27:02.
As a note the first place winners in both men and women win their weight in wine. Chris Macko is a big guy and smiling for his first marathon win but also perhaps thinking of all that fine Napa Valley wine.

With the 20 year anniversary of Paul Hobbs Winery a fine old bottle of 1991 Napa Valley Cabernet.
If you have had wines from Paul Hobbs you know the great fortune to see this bottle. If you have not had Hobbs wines I would suggest buying online, getting to your favorite wine store or ordering a bottle at a restaurant, they are all especially enticing. From the Cabernet, to the Chardonnay or the Pinot Noir they are exceptional.

Hey everyone – my blog is moving to a new host.
Saturday, with temperatures in the low 80′s, really, I shot at Etude Wines in the Carneros area of Napa Valley.
Weather is quite good, temperatures favorable and waves perfect this week in Maui.

Early morning in the Carneros area was with warmer temperatures and lots of fog.
Yesterday as I was looking out over McBride Vineyard I thought of these vines and their spring, summer and autumn work of producing grapes, and that now with winter a time of rest.
Wednesday this week brought freezing temperatures early and then an afternoon that was warm and perfect for a hike in one of the local parks.
